Jordan Staal (knee) took part in Pittsburgh's practice Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact:
Coach Dan Bylsma said that Staal could return to game action sometime this week but hasn't given any specific dates. The Pens play Tuesday in Montreal and are then off until the weekend, when they play back-to-back games. At this point, it looks like Staal will get two games in for the week.

Mike Smith is the likely starter when the Coyotes host the Red Wings on Monday, the Arizona Republica reports.
Impact:
Smith is coming off a 32-save performance against the Sharks. The goalie, who is expected to best his career total in games played this week, had a strong outing against Detroit on Jan. 19, notching 33 saves on 35 shots, though the Coyotes ultimately fell in the shootout.

Gabriel Landeskog, who has just three goals in 14 games since the beginning of January, fired a franchise-record nine shots on goal during Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to Vancouver.
Impact:
He may be firing blanks right now, but at least he's firing. Landeskog may be the Avs' most important player this season as he currently leads the team in shots on goal (161), hits (141) and plus-minus (+13). As a fresh-faced rookie, he's already one of the team's hardest-working players each and every night, and he gets rewarded for his efforts with a ton of ice time - routinely over 20 minutes per game. With a strong work ethic, good skill set and talented supporting cast, Landeskog has a very bright future ahead of him in Colorado. Consider adding him to your roster if he's somehow still available in your fantasy league.

After playing in the bottom three against Columbus Friday, Niklas Hagman was training with the fourth line again at practice, reports Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register.
Impact:
Coach Bruce Boudreau seems to have lost some confidence in the veteran winger, stating "Sometimes guys get in a rut, They just sort of need a wake-up call a little bit. When we put Beleskey on the fourth line about eight games ago or ten games ago, he went 'Whoa'. And then he started to really come on."

Ilya Bryzgalov allowed four goals on 37 shots Sunday in a loss to the Rangers.
Impact:
Bryzgalove now has just three wins over the last three weeks. He's had a couple of stinkers, but he's also allowed one goal or less five times in the his last seven appearances.

Brett Connolly (healthy scratch) played 7:10 Saturday in his return to action. He did not register a shot but he did have one blocked shot.
Impact:
He did stop a scoring chance on a great backcheck, a move that's noticeable because it's the area his coach, Guy Boucher, says is his biggest weakness. Boucher believes Connolly's struggles are like those of his teammate Steven Stamkos and Boston's Tyler Seguin, who both struggled as rookies and were benched. His future remains strong but he has almost no value in single-year formats.
