Latest News:

02.24.12

The Lions plan to have face-to-face negotiations with Calvin Johnson's agent about an extension this weekend, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact:
The Lions have begun talks with Johnson and it sounds that things have been amicable thus far. It'd would be rather shocking if the two sides weren't able to hammer out a deal that made Johnson's one of the game's richest receivers.

01.10.12

Detroit is expected to rework Calvin Johnson's contract this offseason, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact:
Larry Fitzgerald's eight-year, $120-million deal seems to be the benchmark mentioned by most as Detroit and Johnson enter the offseason. There's plenty of momentum and goodwill between the two parties to believe a deal will get done before camp opens next summer.

01.08.12

Calvin Johnson made 12 receptions for 211 yards and two scores Saturday as the Lions' season came to an end with a loss to the Saints.

Impact:
Johnson was targeted 15 times by quarterback Matthew Stafford, who clearly has the confidence in Megatron's immense abilities to ignore double coverage at times. Johnson and Stafford are the key pieces to the Detroit offense, and the Lions front office will only take steps this offseason to make life easier for the pair going forward.

01.07.12

Calvin Johnson (Achilles) is active for Saturday's game against New Orleans.

Impact:
Even if the Lions don't win Saturday, Megatron figures to get his playoff pool owners decent numbers before checking out. He was contained by the Saints the last time the two sides faced off, but the Detroit passing game has been red-hot over the last three weeks.

01.06.12

Calvin Johnson (Achilles') is probable for Saturday's game against the Saints, the Lions' official site reports.

Impact:
Not many give the Lions much of a chnace of advancing past the Saints on Saturday, but Johnson is the sort of talent than can tip the balance of a game on any given Sunday (as well as Thursday, Saturday or Monday).

01.05.12

Calvin Johnson (Achilles') stretched and participated in the media portion of Thursday's practice, Mlive.com reports.

Impact:
Johnson, who has been nursing an Achilles' injury, said that he expects to play Saturday against the Saints, which is something supported by his presence at practice Thursday.

01.04.12

Calvin Johnson (Achilles') did not practice Wednesday, Detroit Free Press writer Dave Birkett reports.

Impact:
That said, the report adds that there is little doubt that Johnson will play in Saturday's game against the Saints.

01.03.12

Calvin Johnson did not practice Tuesday, Detroit Free Press writer Dave Birkett reports.

Impact:
The official injury report isn't available, but we're assuming Johnson's absence will be attributed to the Achilles' tendon issue that limited him to just one partial practice last week. We'll also assume that, barring aggravation, the injury is no threat to keep him from playing against the Saints.

01.01.12

Calvin Johnson (Achilles) had a career-high 11 receptions for 244 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's 45-41 loss at Green Bay.

Impact:
Johnson received a whopping 17 targets, and the Packers could do very little to stop him (he also drew a couple of pass interference calls). Johnson came up a little short of his first 100-catch campaign (96 receptions), but he led the NFL with 1,681 receiving yards and an NFC-best 16 touchdowns. Unfortunately for those in playoff leagues, the Lions could be one-and-done, facing a powerful Saints team in New Orleans.

01.01.12

Calvin Johnson (Achilles) is active for Sunday's game against the Packers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact:
With the Lions still jockeying for playoff position, Johnson could be primed for a huge game Sunday since Charles Woodson is sitting this one out as the Packers try to avoid injuries in Week 17.

12.30.11

Calvin Johnson (Achilles) is probable for Sunday's game against Green Bay.

Impact:
Even with the injury, Sunday is a nice on-paper situation for Johnson. The Lions need to win to keep Atlanta from making a run at their current playoff seed, and the Packers have nothing to gain, meaning Johnson should be playing with playoff-like urgency against a team that's taking a preseason-like approach.

12.30.11

Calvin Johnson (Achilles') is practicing Friday, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.

Impact:
The report does not specify his participation level, but Johnson's presence on the field Friday bodes well for his availability for Sunday's game against the Packers.

12.29.11

Calvin Johnson (Achilles') was not at practice Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact:
So far there's been no buzz about Johnson possibly missing Sunday's contest against the Packers, but a return to practice Friday would certainly ease his owners' potential concerns regarding his Week 17 availability.

12.28.11

Calvin Johnson (heel) was held out of practice Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact:
Unless we hear otherwise, we'll assume that this is simply a rest/maintenance day for Johnson.

12.25.11

Calvin Johnson caught four passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's win over the Chargers.

Impact:
Another solid effort for the star weapon in what has developed into a potent Detroit passing attack.

12.18.11

Calvin Johnson exploded in Sunday's 28-27 comeback win, catching nine passes (14 targets) for a career-high 214 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

Impact:
Johnson was great early and late, catching a 51-yard touchdown in the first quarter and scoring the game-winning touchdown in the final minute of regulation. He was outstanding on Detroit's final possession which started on its own two-yard line, catching three passes for 75 yards and drawing a pass interference call as well. After posting one of the worst games of his career last week, Johnson responded with one of his best Sunday, routinely beating Oakland defenders down the field.

12.13.11

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Tuesday that quarterback Matthew Stafford could have been more aggressive in targeting Calvin Johnson last week, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact:
Johnson tied a season-low with 29 yards and he hasn't found the end zone in five contests. His abilities and earlier production make Johnson a very difficult wideout to sit, especially as many leagues are now headed to the playoffs. His numbers may not reach the level they were at during the season's first few weeks, but the Lions are sure to not let their best offensive weapon stay silent as they make a playoff push of their own.

12.04.11

Calvin Johnson finished with six catches and 69 receiving yards in Sunday's loss to New Orleans.

Impact:
Johnson was bracketed with double coverage all night, as it was evident the Saints' were not going to allow him to be the player who beat them. Even with all the attention, Megatron was able to post a modest outing, though not what owners were looking for, and it points to his immense talent. He remains a top option in fantasy despite the less-than-stellar numbers of late.

12.04.11

Calvin Johnson (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against New Orleans.

Impact:
Feel free to roll with Johnson as you normally would Sunday night.
